MarbleBlast Overveiw
From Marble Blast Wiki
MarbleBlast Gold is a computer game made by GarageGames, and is available for Mac, PC, and Linux. There are 100 levels included, and the objective in each is to get a marble from a start pad to an end pad in as little time as possible. Some levels also contain gems which have to be picked up in order to finish. The marble must be maneuvered through hazards and obstacles of varying difficulty, such as trapdoors, mines, and pitfalls. In addition to rolling and jumping, the marble can also pickup various "powerups" that temporarily give it extra abilities. These include the power to make higher jumps, to shoot forwards at a blinding speed, and even to change the direction of gravity!
One of the defining features of MarbleBlast is that it is powered by Torque Game Engine, which gives it stunningly realistic physics. For example, when the marble is on a stationary platform about to move, it will jerk back relative to the platform when the platform starts to move, due to its inertia. The impeccable physics can also be seen in the way the spin of the marble affects its bounce. These properties are often used to create a challenge; there are a few levels in which the marble has to stay on a platform that moves and changes direction rapidly. On the other hand, controlling the marble’s spin is a relatively basic skill that is required for most levels.
Although the game includes 100 exciting levels, arguably the most fun comes from playing or even making custom levels. Anyone, regardless of whether they have finished all levels, can build their own custom levels. To date, there have been over 1000 custom levels, created by players all over the world.
